Elrec’s cool chill out zone

“It’s cool”

What more can you say? Elrec’s Youth Zone has the seal of approval from the young people who use it but it is not just for fun. The Youth Zone in Forth Street is the only space in Edinburgh and Lothians where young people from ethnic minority communities can meet to make new friends, mix music, share ideas or get confidential advice on all kinds of issues.

Thanks to Kay Richardson of Elrec for putting us in touch with what sounds like a really enterprising and imaginative project for young people. According to Elrec’s website: “It evolved from suggestions made by BME young people through a needs consultation/research that was carried out a few years prior”.

The award winning project in the centre of Edinburgh is free and open to young people aged 14 to 21 on Thursdays from 4pm to 8pm and Fridays from 1pm to 5pm.

“It was really good getting all the equipment and stuff in the room.”
